Ways to escape record heat

I started taking a long nap during the day as soon as I got off work when we had the stretch of near 100-degree temperatures, to mixed reviews.

My son didn’t at first understand what I was trying to do and would come by to try to convince me to take him somewhere.

But it seems like the best way to skip the unpleasant effects of a heat wave. Our Spanish ancestors were on to something.

Though my sleep ended up being terrible. I just couldn’t settle my brain down.

Finally we’ve gotten a respite from the heat with much-needed rain but still, it’s going to be a long and probably a deadly summer for anyone who finds themselves in difficult circumstances through power outages or being stuck outside. Last year in Arizona was a record for heat-related deaths.

Such pleasant thoughts.

Poetry stuff

A couple of poetry journals will close their submissions soon. Tupelo Quarterly closes at 11:59 p.m. Monday, and Mississippi Review closes submissions for their art issue Sunday night.

I need to send in some submissions, too! I’ve shirked off my poetry duties because of my seven-day-in-a-row work schedule. It was a relief to log off Friday.

I also heard there was some sort of debate that people are freaking out about. It ultimately won’t matter, I don’t think. We have months to go before we vote, and it’ll probably be ancient history by then. Let’s just hope nothing worse happens. I’d like to retire in a country, OK?
